The first SIM pioneers arrived in 1893. This resulted in 1954 in a church: Evangelical Church Winning All. In 1967 all SIM activities and belongings where handed over to ECWA and SIM could move to other countries.
But SIM never moved away from Nigeria. The main reason for this is the population growth. There are now more unreached people then when SIM first started. The north of Nigeria is mainly muslim area. All the states there have the Sharia law. However, it is legal to evangelise there. Its the biggest population of muslims in the world in a country where it is legal to evangelise.
Another important reason why SIM is stilla ctive in Nigeria is the type of christians in Nigeria. Many christians are influenced by traditional African religions. The prosperity gospel is also of big influence in NIgeria. So christians in Nigeria have to battle of two sides: win the Muslims while not losing the christians.
